AC Not Cooling? Try These 3 Quick Fixes First

If your air conditioner is running but not cooling your home, don’t panic. There are a few simple things you can check before calling an HVAC professional.

1. Check the Thermostat Settings

Make sure your thermostat is set to “cool” and that the temperature is set lower than your current room temp. Also check that the fan is set to “auto,” not “on.”

2. Inspect the Air Filter

A dirty air filter can block airflow, causing the system to overheat or freeze up. Replace it if it looks dirty or hasn’t been changed in the last 1–2 months.

3. Look at the Outdoor Unit

Head outside and check the condenser unit. Clear away any debris like leaves, weeds, or dirt that might block airflow. Make sure the fan is spinning.
